FlixBus Wins Going for Growth at UK Bus Awards
Travel tech company FlixBus was announced as the winner of the Going for Growth award at the 2023 UK Bus Awards in London yesterday.
The leading industry award ceremony, held annually since 1996, took place at the Troxy in London on 28 November.
The Going For Growth Award was a new category for 2023, with sustainable coach brand FlixBus its first-ever Gold Winner.
Managing Director of FlixBus UK Andreas Schorling commented: “This is the absolute icing on the cake of what has been a phenomenal year for FlixBus in the UK. We have outperformed our ambitions in terms of passenger numbers and network coverage but as I often say: this is just the beginning!
“There is a green revolution happening in the UK coach market and we won’t stop until we are the biggest coach network in the country. We want to thank our coach operator partners who share our vision and are the foundation of this success. I also want to dedicate this award to my team, whose talent and passion continuously push the boundaries of what is possible.”
FlixBus started its journey in the UK coach market in 2020, with its official launch in April 2021.
In 2022, FlixBus has already served its 1 millionth passenger and this summer, FlixBus doubled the size of its overall UK network and grew it fivefold in Scotland.
FlixBus now offers regular express coach services to 60 destinations across the UK, thanks to the growing number of coach operators partnering with FlixBus to deliver services.
Not only is FlixBus growing the domestic coach market but is leading the way for express services internationally from destinations across the UK.
FlixBus passenger numbers increased by 89% in Q2 of 2023 compared to Q2 in 2022 and reached the milestone of 2 million UK passengers.
Globally, FlixBus more than doubled the number of passengers around the world between 2021 and 2022, carrying 34 million customers in summer 2022.
This record-breaking figure beat its pre-pandemic levels in 2019, showcasing the brand’s wider contribution to the recovery and growth of the sector as a whole.
FlixBus plans to continue this rapid growth in terms of its network size and passenger figures, based on its current performance and success in other markets, aiming to become the largest coach brand in the country in the next five years.
